MARTIAN SUCCESSOR NADESCO THE MOVIE (3*)

released 28 dec 03 / last mod 01 jun 07 / greg goebel / public domain

* I had read some descriptions of the MARTIAN SUCCESSOR NADESCO satire-comedy-adventure series that sounded interesting, so when I ran across MARTIAN SUCCESSOR NADESCO -- THE MOVIE / PRINCE OF DARKNESS (MSN-TM/POD) I picked it up.

As it turned out, MSN-TM/POD was the worst way to get introduced to the series, since it assumes a detailed familiarity with the background and characters of the series. However, MSN-TM/POD still remains amusing to a newcomer to an extent, being a wild sci-fi adventure ride with space battles, mecha duels, and some poking-fun sort of humor -- something along the lines of watching somebody playing a complicated and snazzy video game for 90 minutes. It may not make a lot of sense to a newcomer and it's quickly forgotten, but it does pass the time in a pleasant sort of eye-candy way.

If you are familiar with the MSN and liked it, you may like MSN-TM/POD. The artwork is good, there's loads of flashy computer graphics and action scenes, and some appealing NipponPop soundtrack work. Brilliant, maybe not, but it did make me curious enough about MSN to want to try out the initial episodes.
